Chasing the Right Par

So here is the confusion.

Golf holes are set up so that we can reach greens in regulation. For par 3s, we should be able to get on in one, par 4s in 2 and par 5s in three.

Now look at the so called men's tee or white tees. Some of the par 3s are 200 yards, par 4s 400 yards and par 5s 500 or more yards.

Let's add another information into the equation. I play a lot as a single in public courses. I seldom see players who play with me at the white tees who can drive 200 or more yards. Over the years, my swing speed stayed the same at 70 mph. My best tee shot is 180 yards.

If you consider all the above factors, it is very clear why the golfers handicap did not change over the years. Also, the number of golfers stay the same.

Today, I played the forward tee or red tee. It took a lot of self talk to gather up enough courage to do that. But deep inside, I know that is the right tee to play. I can reach the greens in regulation. The par in my home course is 35, I shot 41.

I am back!

I did not give up my chase for par.
I deviated to triathlon in the last few years.
Here is the good news and the bad news.
Bad news, I tore my left medial meniscus of my knee last year.
It took 9 months to heal.
Two months ago, I tore my left rotator cuff.
So, I am done with endurance sports.
Now the good news, I am back to golf!

What's new?
My goal this year is to improve my driving and sand shots.
I bought a used Callaway draw driver.
Hopefully that will help.
I found a nice tip for driving.
Focus on a spot 5 inches behind the ball, that helps with the upward swing!

Stay tuned.
